Let's start at the beginning:
My name is Levi and I'm addicted to hobbies.
Not all hobbies, mind you, but if I start a hobby I can't help but go all in....
I decided, years ago, to play computer games. So, I researched computers, I learned parts, I learned mice and keyboards and headphones and 1337. I built PCs, played games, and ended up writing tutorials and getting ranked in the games I was playing, etc.
I decided to shoot squirrels and learned to work on rifles, how to bed, how to sight-in, how to modify triggers, how to squeeze out accuracy, and ended up bedding people's guns, doing trigger jobs on rifles and pistols, and building out nearly 100 (83 to be exact) 10/22's for people to help pay for books in college (and support my gun trade habit which included 2 10/22's with over $1,000 in each of the..... yeah....).
I loved soccer, played soccer, and then begin coaching, helping high schools learn how to place players, what styles would fit their players, running hell weeks, and eventually head coaching a high school team.
After my 7th knee surgery where I was told I would never run again I researched (while on bed rest) until I learned everything there was to learn about how the body worked through the running cycle, fore, impact, transfer, minimalism in running, began blogging, wrote papers, wrote and published a book (Second Wind: the running coach you never had but always needed), started coaching running, one-on-one, developed a 5k training program for people who had never run before (Dormant2Dominant) and began coaching large groups. From there I moved into reviews where companies partnered with me (sent me all kinds of free gear) to review for them, including Skins, Icebreaker, Sugoi, Zensah, CEP, Altra, TopoAthletic, Lems, Russell Moccasin, Spartan Race, etc. etc. etc.) on my secondwind blog
I started CrossFit, at a Box, for the first time 9 months ago and have dove in, taking every class I can find, driving for seminars, and signing up for my L1 (later this month).
I did my first macro diet (I'd never heard of macro and definitely didn't know how to calculate them because.... #mathsucks) and then reverse engineered the results to find the calculations, researched every paper I could find until I felt confident in knowing what macros everyone should get based on their gender, weight, workout regiment, and goals and begin coaching people's macros to great results in cuts, gains, and #gainzbruh.
I could go on, but you get the picture... to a fault, once I decide on a new hobby, I... obsess.
The greatest of these was God. To research, learn, interview, read, listen, pray, and study to learn that most of what I had ever learned about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the books of the Bible, Heaven, Hell, all of it.... wasn't in there. I wanted to deeply, intimately know the revealed character of God and then view everything else through the lens of God's character. I get to do that full time! It's amazing and I LOVE it!
My life is God, my beautiful wife (we've been married 18 1/2 years), my 2 daughters, and getting to preach.
My hobbies are.... many. The one I want to focus on here is, you guessed it: Guns.
I have shot guns a LOT over the past 25 years (the first time I fired a gun was with my now father-in-law when I was ~13 years old). I've worked on rifles, mostly, branched out to ARs some, and eventually to pistols. I carry everyday (different guns over the years - which we will get into here) and will write a good bit about that: EDC guns, holsters, belts, the whys, the hows, and more.
What I will share a lot of are experiences with different guns, different holsters, belts, equipment, etc. If you followed my SecondWind blog you know I really love to focus on the company, not just the product, and always have a soft spot for small, family owned businesses.
As we go along, if you have questions, drop them in the comments!
If there are particular products you'd like to see reviewed, let me know!
If you have an absolute FAVORITE _________ something, let me know!
